Ive had my eye on this beer for a while and I do like Erdinger Beers. One of the most prominent Weissbier breweries in German, Erdinger has a great range , of which I have review their Weissbier (Original) and the SchneeWeisee. Both these beers have been excellent and this review concentrates on their strongest beer, the Pikantus. It is described as a Dunkler WeizenBock and rolls in at 7.3%. There is a hint of caramel on the nose and on the palate. There is also a hint of chocolate and raisins, giving the beer its strong dark , slightly sweetish, discerning look . Once poured into the glass there is a huge slightly off white head, and a rich deep dark amber colour, not quite black. The level of carbonation is quite high as the bubbles roar up from the bottom of the glass, and with every sip, there is strong white-ish lacing of the beer on the side of the glass. The taste as previously mentioned is of a caramel, chocolate and raisins , this combination works tremendously well. The beer is so well put together that even at 7.3% it doesn't taste that strong, though beware as ive found out on more than one occasion, these beers need to be treated with respect, as the alcohol is slowly released through the beer and once the whole bottle has been consumed then and only then do you feel the full force of the alcoholic kick. A truly outstanding beer from Erdinger as you would expect. A beer to sip and ponder over, to contemplate the issues of the day, or like me, which beer should I have next after Ive finished this one! I strongly recommend this.
