This beer was kindly sent to me by my parent in laws who live in the heart of Bavaria, the exact location is not that far from the actual Brauerei Scheyern, in fact you can see the tower of the Kloster Abbey from the balcony of my parent inlaws apartment. This beer intrigued me when I saw the size of the bottle, a 33cl offering. These bottles , I had previously thought of only holding beer of a strength of around 7% plus, but this beer is just 4.7%. Two issues arose regarding this beer before I had opened the bottle and tasted the contents. One - The beer is described as a craft bier, which immediately had me cringing, as Craft beer in England isnt my favourite style because breweries , whom are relatively new and are trying to establish themselves, are very experimental in the brews, which I just dont like , too flamboyant . I like a basic good solid and honest beer. The Brauerei Scheyern is well established, brewing since 1117 so obviously they are trying a new style. Two- the description of the beer on the label clearly states the bier as hopfentripe, using particular green hops from the local hop farms. This explains the amazing blast of hops on the taste, well I say blast its more like an explosion. As I've said before the alcohol contents is only 4.7% but the triple hopped edge gives the beer an incredible punch and kick. The taste lingers on the palate almost indefinitely. and the flavour is completely dominated by the triple hop process. The colour of the beer is a slighty hazy yellow, a faded apricot shade., there is a small amount of lacing on the side of the glass This is the first Grunhopfentriple beer from Germany ive tried and its a real eye opener.
