I love a good Weissbier and I also love a good traditional Weissbier Specialist brewer. Schneider Weiss is one such brewer. They have a great range of Weissbiers, of which I have tried their Tap 7 Original many times. This brew I've been wanted to try ever since I saw a review on youtuber by a guy who had visited Munich and the Schneider Weiss Brauhaus . Needless of say I was consumed with jealously as he sat at the bar and drank a Tap 6. The Weizen Dopplebock is a powerful beast. On opening the bottle I clearly detected a strong aroma of burnt malts. The beer rolls in at 8.2%, and lives up to its staggeringly strong alcoholic content. Pouring the beer into the glass a very solid looking foamy head appeared, as you'd expect with a Weissbier, The aroma , along with the burnt malts, had a hint of caramel and tinge of cherry. The taste was mesmerising, a strong hit of toffee, plum and raisins was present. This gave way to a slightly sweetish edge . The alcoholic punch was very subtle and slow releasing. You could feel this with every gulp, climbing ever so slowly then bang, you get the full force of the alcohol. The mouthfeel was wonderful, satisfying every taste bud, the fruity note of the raisins and plum has been cleverly incorporated into the beer. The bottle label did state that this was bottled fermented, not uncommon with weissbiers. The yeast was cleverly woven into the beer and ever present in the taste. A truly outstanding beer from Schneider Weiss. I highly recommend this one. A king of the Weizen Dopplebock.
